| A 19th century Chinese silver pendant has auspicious symbols to bring its wearer the fulfillment of wishes, abundance and wealth. The emblems on both sides of the crest-shaped pendant are “mani,” known as the jewel of the doctrine, and represent the magical powers of Buddhist beliefs. Hanging on chains from the pendant are three charms—a pearl, a pomegranate and a fish. The pearl, entwined with ribbons, represents a good future. The pomegranate, bursting open to reveal its numerous seeds, promises abundance and fulfillment of wishes. The fish symbolizes both abundance and wealth. Worn on its original long silver chain, this piece moves with the wearer to emit a soft, bell-like sound. Both pendant and chain are in very good condition. The pendant, including hanging charms, measures 3” (7.6 cm) in length, 2” (5 cm) in width. The chain only is 29” (73.5 cm) in length. | |||||||||
