Balinese Hibiscus Wood Mask
Natural variations in the color and grain of yellow hibiscus wood give this carved mask of a Balinese princess a special appeal. It is from the studio of I. W. Mudano, a second generation master carver who has exhibited internationally for decades. He works primarily with yellow hibiscus wood, producing both original abstract forms and traditional Balinese figures and masks. A visit to his studio in Mas, near Ubud, on the Indonesian Island of Bali, reveals the amazing range of beautiful shapes, colors and textures he is able to see and extract from just one type of wood. This work was purchased in the Mudano studio 15 years ago and is in perfect condition. Dimensions: height 10" (26 cm), width 6-1/2" (16 cm), depth 3-1/4" (8 cm).
