| A carved wood altar to display a small Buddha figure, this late 19th/early 20th century piece from Shandong Province in China was referred to as a "Buddha house." A cover slipped down over the display area and was removed for special family devotions. A window carved into the cover allowed the figure inside to "see" and be seen. Two nicely carved and gilded dragons flank the Buddha display area. Pierced carvings of two more dragons on the sides of the altar allow the Buddha figure to be seen when approaching the display box from either side. Stylized dragons surround a good fortune character within the lid's window roundel. This late Qing altar is in excellent condition and will accommodate a small figure no larger than 2-1/8" (5-1/2 cm)in depth and 8" (20 cm) in height. The Buddha pictured here is not included. Dimensions of the altar with cover: height 13-1/8" (34 cm), width 12" (30 cm), depth 4" (10 cm). SEE MORE ITEMS IN OUR COLLECTION AT WWW.SILKROAD1.COM | |||||||||||||
