Marble Reclining Buddha, Burma
This lustrous white polished marble Buddha rests on an unpolished, irregular marble slab, providing maximum contrast in order to center focus on the figure. The robe, with its graceful folds and skillfully executed shoulder flap, complements the smooth, serene face of the Buddha. Carved in Burma during the latter half of the 20th century, the Buddha and base are cut from a single piece of marble. The figure was carved to be viewed from any angle rather than only from the front as are many of the Burmese altar Buddha sculptures. More than two feet in length, this piece is quite heavy and is in excellent condition. Dimensions: height 8-1/2" (22 cm), width 24-1/2" (62 cm), depth 5" (13 cm).
