| From Khevsureti, a province in the eastern part of the Republic of Georgia, this large (5" diameter), colorful starburst has the robust design typical of that mountainous region. Unidentified stones in green, amber and brown are interspersed with patterns created by piercing and overlay work on a silver-toned disk. Although a silver chain is attached to a small knob on the back of the disk, we believe this piece originally was used on a belt. It resembles in both size and design similar disks we have seen used as belt closings in the region's neighboring Dagestan and beyond in Central Asia. A spirited example of early 20th century folk art from the Caucasus, it is in perfect condition. Dimension: diameter 5" (13 cm). | ||||||
