| An official rides a Chilin, a mythical creature used to symbolize high rank, on the side of this 19th century Qing Dynasty underglaze blue and white jar. Two attendants with fans precede the official, and another attendant with an umbrella follows. The depth of the cobalt blue and its liberal use in the design give this jar its appeal. There is a hairline crack in the top rim (see photo enlargement); otherwise the jar is in very good condition and would look wonderful on a shelf or atop a tall cabinet. Dimensions: height 9 1/2" (24 cm), diameter 9" (23 cm). | ||||||||
