| The high crown, graceful hand position and body modeling of this 19th century Burmese Mandalay Buddha show strong Thai influence. This large lacquered and gilded carved wood image, which depicts Buddha passing into nirvana, rests on a wood pallet covered with deep red lacquer. Mandalay relief-moulded lacquer inset with bits of colored mica adorns the headband and body-hugging robe. The eyes are wide and realistic under upward sweeping brows, and the small mouth is upturned in a smile. This unusual and expressive Buddha is in excellent condition. Dimensions: Height 15 1/2" (39 cm), width 35" (89 cm), depth 13" (33 cm). | ||||||||||
