This serene early 20th century Burmese Buddha, cast in heavy black bronze, is in excellent condition and was most likely displayed on a home altar. The peaceful face has the broad brow, large downcast eyes and half-smile that first characterized Buddha images during Burma’s Ava Period (1364-1752) and has been adopted by many of the country’s artisans down through the centuries. Simple clean lines of the unadorned robe and the right hand resting lightly in earth touching mudra give the figure dignity, with the only decorative details reserved for the double lotus throne. This Buddha obviously has been well cared for. Two pinholes on the right bottom part of the throne likely occurred during casting. Dimensions: height 14 ½” (37 cm), width 9 ½” (24 cm), depth 7” (18 cm). (SEE MORE ITEMS IN OUR COLLECTION AT WWW.SILKROAD1.COM)
