In Burma (now called Myanmar), lacquer receptacles called hsun-ok were used for centuries to carry gifts of food to the Buddhist monasteries. The tapered top of this early 20th century hsun-ok, which is of the particular shape called ok-kwet, is created by five trays that fit one on top of the next over the wide bottom footed bowl.
