A magnificent silver belt is made of 112 separate silver rectangles, all of them hallmarked, fitted closely together around a leather strap. This piece belonged to a family from the Republic of Georgia who identified the belt as Russian, and sold it not long after Georgia declared its independence following the demise of the USSR. Handmade silver tubes of various lengths are strung together to form this simple, unusual necklace from Tbilisi in the Republic of Georgia. Made of two separate strands, the necklace may have been part of an ethnic costume or just the decorative invention of a home artisan. This early 20th century Russian-made samovar was found in the Republic of Georgia following that small country's independence in 1991 after 70 years as part of the USSR. A maker's seal on the top shows a hammer and sickle under a star, perhaps a reason it was not retained by the original Georgian owners. From early 20th century Tbilisi in the Republic of Georgia, this silver bracelet shows some similarity in design to jewelry that originated in the Caucasus Mountains regions to the north. Three beaded balls with flower petal markings are separated with fine silver wire wrapped around the heavier silver wire that forms the bracelet. The pliable bracelet wire, twisted on one side, smooth on the other, can be shaped to fit the wrist. As shown, the bracelet measures about 3" (7 cm) in diameter.

Hallmarked and dated 1894, this silver salt cellar from the Republic of Georgia stands on three ball feet. Flowers and leaves engraved on the side are centered with a plain cartouche. Art and design from Georgia, a geographic and cultural bridge between East and West, draws on both Asian and European aesthetic traditions. This salt cellar leans more toward the small country's European side. It is in very good condition. Dimensions: height 1" (3 cm), diameter 3" (7 cm).
